Troubleshoot Windows VM networking on first boot

Recognize and recover from a Windows VM guest that starts without network connectivity the first time it boots on an edge device.

Symptom

After you deploy a Windows VM application and it reaches the Running status, the Windows guest has no network connectivity on its first boot.

Resolution

Restart the VM application by using lifecycle control to clear the condition. Use one of the following methods:

  • In the Red Hat Edge Manager web console, click Restart on the device details page.
  • Run the flightctl CLI:
    $ flightctl app restart device/<device_name> --name <app_name>
  • Stop and then start the application.

If the Windows guest still has no network connectivity after a restart, verify that the Red Hat Edge Manager control plane uses a virt-launcher image that resolves the known Windows networking issues, and escalate or open a support case.
