Install Red Hat Edge Manager on Red Hat Enterprise Linux in disconnected environments

Install the Red Hat Edge Manager control plane on Red Hat Enterprise Linux without access to public registries. Stage container images and RPMs on a connected prep system, then install on an air-gapped target host.

Use this path when the management host has no outbound internet access, or when policy requires software to arrive on portable media or an internal mirror.

Prerequisites

The following requirements apply to the air-gapped target host for both installation paths. The internet-connected prep machine has separate requirements. See Offline installation bundle or Local RPM repository with subscription mirrors in the Additional resources section.

Prerequisites on the target machine (air-gapped)

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 or 10 that meets the host requirements in System requirements and Installing the Red Hat Edge Manager RPM package
  • podman installed
  • skopeo installed (install skopeo before you remove network access, or include it as an RPM in the bundle or offline repository)
  • A DNS name that resolves to the target host for global.baseDomain. See Planning DNS and TLS for the standalone gateway in the Additional resources section.
  • A transfer method for the bundle or RPM tree. See Transferring an offline installation bundle or Transferring an offline RPM repository in the Additional resources section.
  • Firewall and network paths for edge devices, automation, and admin access. See Network ports for Red Hat Edge Manager in the Additional resources section.

Choosing a path

Complete the prerequisites above before you follow either installation path. Then select one of the following:

  • Offline installation bundle: Use when you want container images, RPMs, and helper scripts in one portable archive, or when you do not already mirror content with subscription tooling.
  • Local RPM repository with subscription mirrors: Use when your organization already stages Red Hat Edge Manager RPMs with Red Hat subscription tooling or Red Hat Satellite. This path is also suitable when you mirror container images to a private registry or need offline RPMs for multiple targets.
