Metrics that Red Hat Edge Manager exposes

Red Hat Edge Manager exports service, business, and device metrics that you can collect with Prometheus to monitor the health and performance of both the management server and your managed edge devices.

The Red Hat Edge Manager service exports metrics in three categories:

  • Service metrics: Metrics about the Red Hat Edge Manager service itself, including system resource utilization, API metrics, database metrics, and agent metrics.
  • Business metrics: Metrics about objects that Red Hat Edge Manager manages, including device and application deployment, update, and health metrics, and fleet rollout metrics.
  • Device and application metrics: Metrics collected from devices and their application workloads.

You can collect the first two categories from the Red Hat Edge Manager API server. Collect the third from the Red Hat Edge Manager Telemetry Gateway.

The Telemetry Gateway:

  • Acts as the entry point for device telemetry data.
  • Ends OpenTelemetry mutual TLS (mTLS) connections from devices and validates client certificates.
  • Labels telemetry data with authenticated device_id and org_id.
  • Exposes metrics for Prometheus scraping or forwards data to upstream OTLP backends.

To store and visualize telemetry data, complete the procedures in the following sections.
