Offline installation bundle

Use the mirror-images tool on a prep machine to build a portable .tar.gz bundle that contains container images, flightctl-services RPMs, and helper scripts. Transfer the bundle to the target host, load images into a local registry, install RPMs, configure registry redirection, and start services.

Meet the shared target host prerequisites in Installing Red Hat Edge Manager on Red Hat Enterprise Linux in disconnected environments before you start this path.

Use this path when

  • You want container images, RPMs, and helper scripts in one portable archive (for example for USB transfer)
  • You do not already mirror Red Hat Edge Manager content with Red Hat subscription tooling or Red Hat Satellite
  • You are staging a management server install and want a single end-to-end workflow without a separate image-mirroring step

Use Local RPM repository with subscription mirrors when your organization already syncs RPMs with subscription repositories and mirrors container images to a private registry separately.

Prerequisites on the prep machine (internet-connected)

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 or 10 with skopeo installed (sudo dnf install -y skopeo)
  • createrepo_c installed (sudo dnf install -y createrepo_c) when you pass --rpm-createrepo to mirror-images
  • Sufficient disk space for the bundle (approximately 5–10 GB for a full bundle, depending on variant)
  • rhem-el9 or rhem-el10 variants: credentials that can pull from registry.redhat.io on the prep machine (sudo podman login registry.redhat.io)

Complete this path in order:

  • Preparing an offline installation bundle
  • Transferring an offline installation bundle
  • Installing from an offline bundle

Pin releases when you build the bundle; see Pinning bundle contents to a release version in the Additional resources section.
