Install from a local RPM repository

Install Red Hat Edge Manager on Red Hat Enterprise Linux by using the offline RPM repository you prepared in Prepare offline RPMs with subscription repositories. Use this procedure only when you mirrored container images separately to a registry the target host can reach.

Before you begin

Procedure

  1. Configure registry redirection before you install or start services. Edit /etc/containers/registries.conf and add mirror entries for each source registry. Set <registry_host>:<registry_port> to your internal registry address:
    [[registry]]
    prefix = "quay.io"
    location = "<registry_host>:<registry_port>"
    insecure = true

    [[registry]]
    prefix = "docker.io"
    location = "<registry_host>:<registry_port>"
    insecure = true

    [[registry]]
    prefix = "registry.redhat.io"
    location = "<registry_host>:<registry_port>"
    insecure = true
    Important

    The insecure = true flag is required when the registry serves plain HTTP. If your registry uses TLS, remove this flag and ensure its CA certificate is trusted on the target system.

  2. Create a repository definition. After Option A (reposync), point baseurl at the subdirectory that contains repodata/:
    sudo tee /etc/yum.repos.d/rhem-offline.repo <<'EOF'
    [rhem-offline]
    name=RHEM offline packages
    baseurl=file:///var/rhem-offline-rpms/edge-manager-1.3-for-rhel-10-x86_64-rpms
    enabled=1
    gpgcheck=0
    EOF

    Adjust the path for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (edge-manager-1.3-for-rhel-9-x86_64-rpms) or for Option B (flat tree at file:///var/rhem-offline-rpms). See Preparing offline RPMs with subscription repositories.

  3. Configure Red Hat Edge Manager before you start services. Create or edit /etc/flightctl/service-config.yaml with at minimum:
    global:
      baseDomain: <baseDomain>
      generateCertificates: builtin
      auth:
        type: oidc

    See Planning DNS and TLS for the standalone gateway for DNS and TLS planning.

  4. Install the Red Hat Edge Manager services package:
    sudo dnf install -y --disablerepo='*' --enablerepo=rhem-offline flightctl-services
  5. Enable and start services:
    sudo systemctl enable --now flightctl.target
    sudo systemctl list-units 'flightctl-*.service'
  6. Complete Configure authentication credentials.
  7. Install the Flight Control CLI from the offline repository if needed:
    sudo dnf install -y --disablerepo='*' --enablerepo=rhem-offline flightctl-cli

Results

  • Required flightctl-* services are active.
  • sudo systemctl status flightctl.target reports active services.
  • The CLI reports a version when installed:
    flightctl version
  • The web UI is reachable at https://<baseDomain>/ on port 443.
